Meet Dr. Azzrah Thobani, the founder and owner of Eye Care By Design.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Thobani earned her BSc. at McGill University and her Doctorate of Optometry with honors from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2009. She went on to complete a fellowship in Hereditary Retinal Disease at the University of Illinois and is a proud fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

With a deep commitment to preventative eye care, Dr. Thobani places patient education and personalized care at the heart of her practice. She believes in creating an environment where every patient feels comfortable, valued, and well cared for. Her passion for eye health has also taken her around the world, volunteering in Kenya, Honduras, Thailand, and Rwanda, where she led outreach programs to improve vision and provide critical eye care education.

Dr. Thobani’s vision for Eye Care By Design goes beyond a typical eye exam. She has crafted a practice that feels welcoming and personal – a place where patients can connect, share, and feel like they’re catching up with a friend while caring for their eye health. Dr. Thobani loves engaging with her patients, exchanging recommendations on travel, life, health, and dining, and fostering a sense of community.

Eye Care By Design offers a full range of optometric services, including comprehensive exams, diabetic eye care, dry eye exams, contact lens fittings, and urgent eye emergencies. The practice focuses on preventative care, helping patients prioritize their health in an environment that feels both supportive and professional.
